Öljynpainelähettimet, known in English as oil pressure transmitters or sending units, are essential components in modern internal combustion engines. Their primary function is to measure the pressure of the lubricating oil within the engine's lubrication system and convert this pressure into an electrical signal. This signal is then transmitted to the vehicle's engine control unit (ECU) or to a dedicated oil pressure gauge on the dashboard.

The proper functioning of an oil pressure transmitter is critical for engine health. Low oil pressure can indicate a severe problem such as a lack of oil, a failing oil pump, or internal engine damage. Conversely, excessively high oil pressure might suggest a blockage in the oil system. By continuously monitoring oil pressure, these transmitters allow the engine's control systems or the driver to be alerted to potentially damaging conditions, enabling timely intervention to prevent catastrophic engine failure.

Öljynpainelähettimet typically operate using a diaphragm that deforms under oil pressure. This deformation alters an electrical resistance or capacitance, thereby changing the output electrical signal. Modern transmitters are often solid-state devices, offering greater reliability and accuracy compared to older mechanical switches. They are designed to withstand the high temperatures and vibrations found within an engine compartment. Regular maintenance and checks of the oil pressure system, including the transmitter, are important for ensuring the longevity and optimal performance of any vehicle.
