ÖNORM

ÖNORM is the national standardization system of Austria, collectively referring to the Austrian standards established to specify requirements for products, services, and management systems. The term is used both as a designation for individual standards (for example ÖNORM 1234) and for the body of standards maintained in Austria.

Standards are published by the Austrian standards organization, commonly referred to as Austrian Standards. The ÖNORM

Development is carried out by technical committees with representatives from industry, academia, consumer groups, and government.

Relation to international: Austria participates in ISO and CEN, aligning its standards with international norms. The

repertoire
includes
national
standards
and
harmonized
versions
of
European
EN
standards
(designated
ÖNORM
EN
...).
The
standards
are
used
in
procurement,
regulation,
and
industry
to
ensure
interoperability
and
safety.
Drafts
go
through
consultation
and
formal
approval.
Adoption
can
be
voluntary;
however,
when
cited
in
public
procurement,
regulations
or
contracts,
ÖNORM
standards
may
become
mandatory
for
those
contexts.
ÖNORM
scheme
facilitates
trade,
product
safety,
and
quality
assurance
across
Austria
and
contributes
to
the
EU
standardization
framework.
