Zawróty is a Polish word that translates to "dizziness" or "vertigo" in English. It describes a sensation of spinning, unsteadiness, or feeling like one's surroundings are moving. This feeling can range in intensity from mild to severe and can be accompanied by other symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and loss of balance.

The causes of zawróty are varied. Common triggers include inner ear problems such as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV), Meniere's disease, or labyrinthitis. Vestibular neuronitis, an inflammation of the vestibular nerve, can also lead to significant dizziness. Neurological conditions like migraines, stroke, or multiple sclerosis may present with zawróty as a symptom. Furthermore, certain medications, dehydration, low blood sugar, anxiety, and even simple motion sickness can induce this sensation.

When experiencing zawróty, individuals might find it difficult to stand or walk. They may feel a loss of control over their body and environment. In some cases, zawróty can be transient, lasting only a few seconds, while in others, it can persist for hours or even days.
