In single-user mode, the system boots to a command-line interface, typically a shell prompt, without loading most of the standard system services or graphical user interface. This minimal environment is crucial because it ensures that critical system files and processes are not locked or in use by other services, making them accessible for modification or repair. Common tasks performed in single-user mode include resetting forgotten passwords, repairing file system errors, editing configuration files, or uninstalling problematic software.
