The name "yisi" (一弋) literally translates to "one arrow," but it is more commonly associated with the *yueqin* (月琴), a four-stringed plucked instrument with a pear-shaped body. The yisi, however, refers specifically to a variant of the *guzheng* (古筝), a zither-like instrument with 21 strings, though some regional interpretations may also describe other plucked instruments.

The yisi is primarily used in folk and classical Chinese music, particularly in the southern regions such as Guangdong, Guangxi, and Fujian.
