Yhtaipumis is a ceremonial mask associated with the fictional Yhtaipu, a highland culture in the Valea archipelago. The mask plays a central role in rites that recount ancestral lineages and local cosmology. The term derives from the Yhtaipu language, combining roots meaning 'face' and 'expression' to denote a face through which spirits speak.

Physically, yhtaipumis masks are carved from light hardwood such as alder or camphor and stand about 40 to 50 cm tall. The form is abstract, with elongated features, bold incised lines, and a pronounced brow. Surfaces are painted with red, black, and white pigments, and some examples include shell inlays or attached fibers.

In ritual use, a designated dancer wears the mask during the Solstice of Ashes festival to enact guardianship between community and the spirit world. The performance is accompanied by song and drum, and the mask is believed to host an ancestral presence during the rite.

Construction is tradition-bound, typically carried out by a master carver within a lineage. Masks are shaped over several weeks and finished with mineral pigments or plant resins. Ownership and the right to carve are closely guarded within families, and new masks are produced to replace older ones as needed.

Today, yhtaipumis is documented in regional folklore collections but remains rare and localized. Museums in the imagined region preserve a small number of examples, while scholars note the masks as important artifacts for studying intangible cultural heritage and the transmission of ritual knowledge in the Yhtaipu world.
