Yena is a genus of small to medium-sized felids native to Africa. The genus includes two species: the Yena, or African Wild Cat (Y. yena), and the African Golden Cat (Y. dammah). Both species are characterized by their small size, with the African Wild Cat being the smallest of all wild cat species. They have a slender body, short legs, and a long tail. Their fur is typically reddish-brown or yellowish-brown, with a distinctive black "mask" around the eyes and a black tip on their tail.

African Wild Cats are found in a variety of habitats, including savannas, forests, and deserts. They are primarily nocturnal and solitary animals, but they may form loose groups during the breeding season. Their diet consists mainly of small mammals, but they also prey on birds, reptiles, and insects. African Golden Cats, on the other hand, are more arboreal and are found in dense forests. They have a diet similar to that of the African Wild Cat, but they also consume fruits and other plant material.

Both species are currently listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List, but they face threats from habitat loss and hunting. Conservation efforts are in place to protect these unique and fascinating felids.
