xDrive50

xDrive50 is a modular electric drivetrain platform developed by Nebula Automotive for use in passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. The platform centers on a scalable architecture designed to be configured with single- or dual-motor setups across front-, rear-, or all-wheel drive layouts. The designation “50” references a nominal 50 kWh battery module and the mid-range power and weight targets of the system.

Technically, xDrive50 integrates power electronics, an electric motor, and a single-speed transmission into compact, modular units that can be distributed across the vehicle chassis. The system supports torque vectoring and calibrated, software-defined control to optimize handling and efficiency. It uses liquid cooling for both motors and inverters and is designed to simplify integration with various vehicle architectures, enabling standardized hydraulic or mechanical interfaces and reduced integration time for OEMs.

Electrical and charging specifications emphasize high-voltage flexibility. The platform is designed to operate on 400- to 800-volt architectures, supporting fast DC charging up to approximately 350 kW and multi-terminal charging strategies. In later firmware iterations, xDrive50 also offers vehicle-to-grid capabilities where permitted, along with standard regenerative braking and energy management features.

Deployment and adoption: xDrive50 was announced by Nebula Automotive in the early 2020s and has been deployed in Nebula’s Artemis line while being licensed to a number of third-party chassis builders.
