Woundwort is a common name used for several species of herbaceous plants, most notably those belonging to the genus Stachys. These plants are characterized by their often woolly or hairy leaves and their medicinal uses, particularly for wound healing. The name "woundwort" itself reflects this historical application, as these plants were traditionally used to treat injuries and promote the closure of wounds.

The most well-known species is often referred to as betony or wood betony (Stachys officinalis), though other Stachys species, such as field woundwort (Stachys arvensis), also share this common name and traditional uses. Woundworts are typically found in meadows, pastures, and along roadsides, preferring well-drained soils. Their flowers are usually small and arranged in spikes, often exhibiting colors ranging from purple to pink or white.
