Vérzékenység, also known as hemophilia, is a rare inherited bleeding disorder that prevents blood from clotting properly. This means that people with hemophilia may bleed for a longer time after an injury or surgery, and they may experience spontaneous bleeding episodes into their joints and muscles.

There are two main types of hemophilia: hemophilia A and hemophilia B. Hemophilia A is more common and is caused by a deficiency in clotting factor VIII, while hemophilia B is caused by a deficiency in clotting factor IX. Both types are inherited, meaning they are passed down from parents to children through genes. Hemophilia primarily affects males, although women can be carriers of the gene and may experience mild symptoms.

Symptoms of hemophilia can vary depending on the severity of the condition. Mild hemophilia may only cause excessive bleeding after surgery or injury. Moderate hemophilia can lead to more frequent bleeding episodes. Severe hemophilia can result in spontaneous bleeding into joints and muscles, which can cause pain, swelling, and long-term damage.

Diagnosis of hemophilia is made through blood tests that measure the levels of clotting factors in the blood. Treatment for hemophilia involves replacing the deficient clotting factor with a manufactured product. This can be done on demand, meaning when bleeding occurs, or prophylactically, meaning on a regular schedule to prevent bleeding. Gene therapy is also being developed as a potential long-term treatment option for hemophilia. While there is no cure for hemophilia, with proper management and treatment, individuals can lead relatively normal lives.
