A color system, or "värisüsteem" in Estonian, refers to a method of organizing and specifying colors. Different color systems are based on various principles and may use different color models.

One common color model is the RGB (Red, Green, Blue) model, which is additive. It describes colors by combining different intensities of red, green, and blue light. It is used in printing and is based on the absorption of light by pigments. Different combinations of these inks create a wide spectrum of colors on paper.

Other color systems might focus on perceptual attributes. For instance, the HSL (Hue, Saturation, Lightness) and HSV (Hue, Saturation, Value) models describe colors based on their hue (the pure color), saturation (the intensity or purity of the hue), and lightness or value (how bright or dark the color is). These models are often more intuitive for artists and designers to work with, as they relate more closely to how humans perceive color.

The choice of color system depends heavily on the application. For web design, RGB is standard. For professional printing, CMYK is essential. Understanding and utilizing the correct color system is vital for achieving desired visual results and avoiding color discrepancies across different media.
