väliskate
Väliskate is the Finnish architectural term for exterior cladding, the outer layer of a building that protects and finishes its external envelope. It is installed over the structural frame and typically above a moisture barrier and thermal insulation. The väliskate is intended to shed water, resist wind and temperature changes, reduce heat loss, and contribute to the building’s appearance. It works with the building’s vapor control layer and drainage plane to manage moisture, and in many designs is part of a ventilated rain-screen system that allows air to circulate behind the cladding.
