Väjningsregler, often translated as "right-of-way rules," are a fundamental part of traffic law in many countries, including Sweden. They dictate which road user has priority in situations where multiple vehicles or pedestrians might otherwise conflict. The primary goal of these rules is to ensure the safe and orderly flow of traffic, preventing accidents and minimizing confusion.

In Sweden, the core principle is often described as "högertrafikregeln," meaning traffic on the right generally has priority. This applies at unmarked intersections where no other signs or signals dictate otherwise. A vehicle approaching an intersection from the right should be yielded to. However, this rule is superseded by other regulations.

Där trafiksignaler (traffic lights) are present, they dictate the right-of-way. Red means stop, green means proceed if safe, and yellow indicates an impending change. Circular signs with a blue background and a white arrow often indicate priority for the traffic flow shown by the arrow, meaning other traffic must yield. Conversely, triangular signs with a red border and a white background (or a black arrow on a white background) indicate that you must yield to traffic from the right or from the direction indicated by the arrow.

Specific situations also have their own väjningsregler. For example, when entering a main road from a smaller road or a driveway, you generally must yield to traffic on the main road, regardless of the direction of approach. Pedestrians typically have priority at marked pedestrian crossings. Cyclists also have specific rules, often relating to their position on the road and their interaction with other road users.
