Viskoosia is a fictional concept sometimes presented in introductory materials on rheology to describe a fluid’s viscous response that depends on conditions such as shear rate and time. It is not an official or standardized quantity within real-world rheology but serves as a pedagogical tool to discuss how viscosity can vary.

Under this construct, viskoosia is described by a function V(γ̇, t, T), where γ̇ is shear rate, t is time under shear, and T is temperature. For a Newtonian fluid, V would be constant, equal to the standard viscosity. For non-Newtonian fluids, viskoosia can change with γ̇ (shear thinning or thickening) and may evolve with time (thixotropy or rheopexy).

Measurement of viskoosia in educational contexts involves rheometry across a range of shear rates and temperatures. The concept emphasizes that a single scalar viscosity may not capture all flow behavior, and it can be used to illustrate how constitutive models relate to observed time- and rate-dependent responses.

Limitations of the concept include its non-standard status and potential for confusion with established terms such as dynamic viscosity, apparent viscosity, and rheological models. In professional practice, real measurements reference standard quantities and validated models rather than a universal viskoosia index.
