Mulching involves applying a layer of organic material like straw, wood chips, or compost around the base of plants. This helps to insulate the soil, regulate temperature, and prevent frost heave, which can dislodge roots. Wrapping can be done with burlap, horticultural fleece, or specialized plant covers.
