Verf is a coating applied to surfaces to protect them and provide color or texture. In Dutch, verf translates to paint. A typical paint formulation consists of pigment, binder, and solvent or water. The pigment provides color and opacity; the binder forms a film that binds pigments to the surface; the vehicle (solvent or water) adjusts viscosity for application and evaporates during drying. Additives can improve properties such as drying time, flow, UV resistance, or mildew resistance. After drying, the binder forms a continuous film that seals the surface.
