vepro

VEPro, short for Vienna Ensemble Pro, is a software application by Vienna Symphonic Library designed to host and manage virtual instruments and sample libraries. It operates as a networked instrument host, enabling composers to run instrument plugins on one or more dedicated computers and to stream audio to a central workstation. This distributed setup helps balance CPU load and expand available RAM for large libraries used in scoring and production.

The software consists of a server component that runs on machines hosting the instruments and a client component that runs inside a digital audio workstation. The client connects to one or more VEPro servers over a local network, allowing the DAW to control instrument instances, route audio, and apply effects without loading every instrument directly in the DAW. VEPro provides multi-channel routing, a built-in mixer, per-channel processing, and scalable session templates for complex projects.

VEPro supports hosting of compatible plug-ins on the host operating system and can stream samples from local drives or network storage. It is designed to work with macOS and Windows and supports configurations with multiple client and server machines to create large, flexible templates for orchestral scoring, film, and game audio workflows. By separating instrument hosting from the primary DAW, VEPro aims to improve performance, expand instrument reach, and streamline resource management in professional production environments.
