Veevastaseid is a term used to describe a class of substances and technologies aimed at resisting water ingress and reducing surface wetting. In materials science and industry, veevastaseid are applied as coatings, finishes, or additives to fabrics, plastics, concrete, and metal surfaces to improve water resistance and durability. The term is not universally standardized in major encyclopedic references and is more commonly encountered in niche or regional literature, where it overlaps with broader concepts such as hydrophobic coatings and water-repellent finishes.

Mechanism and composition: Most veevastaseid work by lowering surface energy or by creating micro- or nano-scale roughness that traps air and supports a wetting state that resists water penetration.
