variantinformation
Variantinformation is the information describing genetic or other types of variants—differences from a reference sequence or standard—in a dataset. While the term can be used broadly, it is most commonly encountered in genomics, where variantinformation captures details about observed genetic variation across individuals or populations. Core elements include the genomic position, the reference allele, the observed alternate alleles, and measures of confidence or frequency. Additional annotations may indicate predicted functional impact, such as whether a variant is coding or noncoding, and its possible effect on protein function or regulation.
In practice, variantinformation is often stored in structured formats such as the Variant Call Format (VCF).
Applications span clinical genetics, population genetics, pharmacogenomics, and evolutionary studies. Challenges include accurate annotation of variants
