Valgusmuster, also known as valgus deformity, refers to a condition characterized by a lateral deviation or angulation of a limb or joint, most commonly affecting the knees or elbows. The term "valgus" originates from Latin, meaning "knock-kneed" in the context of the knees, where the lower leg angles outward relative to the thigh.

This deformity can be congenital or acquired. Congenital valgus deformities are present at birth and may result from developmental anomalies during fetal growth. Acquired cases often develop due to factors such as trauma, nutritional deficiencies, degenerative joint diseases, or overuse.

In the case of genu valgum (knock knees), the knees angle inward while standing, increasing the distance between the medial malleoli (ankle bones). This can lead to misalignment, gait abnormalities, joint pain, and increased stress on the lateral structures of the knee. Valgus deformities may also affect other joints, including the elbows (cubital valgus) and ankles.

Diagnosis involves clinical examination and imaging techniques such as X-rays to assess the degree of angulation and joint alignment. Treatment options depend on the severity and underlying cause, ranging from conservative measures like physiotherapy and orthotic devices to surgical interventions such as osteotomy to correct bone alignment.
