Exporters are also subject to tariffs or preferential arrangements such as free trade agreements, which they must file for claims accordingly.

In transit situations, carriers and transit agents may also have duties to make correct declaration and ensure customs clearance. Customs authorities rely on electronic systems such as the Customs Transit System or the OTI‑system to verify compliance. Regular training and adherence to accepted customs practices are essential for all parties to avoid delays and penalties.
