Utdanningsveier is a Norwegian term used to describe the different routes within the education system that lead to various qualifications and career possibilities. The concept emphasizes that students can reach different destinations by choosing among programs, combining studies with work, and pursuing further education over time.

In videregående opplæring, two main pathways are offered. The studieforberedende utdanningsprogram is designed to prepare students for higher education and typically ends with a qualification that grants generell studiekompetanse, enabling admission to universities and colleges. The yrkesfaglige utdanningsprogram focuses on practical skills and trades; it combines school-based teaching with workplace-based training and leads to a fagbrev (certificate of apprenticeship) after completing the required practical period and exams. Some vocational programs also include påbygging, a supplementary year or more of study that can provide generell studiekompetanse and broaden future study options.

Beyond videregående opplæring, other educational routes exist. Fagskoleutdanning refers to shorter, specialized higher vocational education that provides practical expertise for specific trades and professions. Students may also transition to higher education through bridging arrangements or additional courses, enabling progression from vocational programs to university or university college programs.

Flexibility is a central feature of utdanningsveier, allowing students to adjust their paths, switch between study and work, or pursue lifelong learning. The Norwegian education system, including the Directorate for Education and Training, uses the concept to describe how learners can tailor their education to interests, labor market needs, and changing ambitions while maintaining opportunities for progression.
