Urineerimise is the Estonian term for urination, also known in medical terminology as micturition. It refers to the physiological process by which urine is expelled from the bladder through the urethra and out of the body. Urination is the final stage of the urinary system’s activity, following urine production in the kidneys and storage in the bladder.

The process is controlled by a combination of smooth and skeletal muscles and nerve signals. The bladder stores urine as it fills. When a sufficient volume is reached, stretch receptors signal the spinal cord and brain, initiating the micturition reflex. Contraction of the detrusor muscle in the bladder wall and relaxation of the internal and external urethral sphincters allow urine to flow through the urethra. Voluntary control via the cerebral cortex and pelvic floor muscles helps determine when and where urination occurs, within social and physical constraints.

Normal urination patterns vary, but typical adults void several times per day, with total daily urine output around 0.5 to 2 liters, depending on fluid intake. Urine is usually pale yellow to clear and free of significant odor, blood, or pain during voiding. Changes in frequency, urgency, burning sensations, or blood in urine may indicate health issues.

Common conditions related to urineerimise include urinary incontinence, urinary retention, dysuria (painful urination), and nocturia (nighttime urination). Evaluation often involves medical history, physical examination, and urinalysis, with treatment ranging from lifestyle changes and pelvic floor exercises to medications or surgical options when necessary.
