They are generally reliable and can handle continuous operation in suitable liquids. Limitations include dependence on the pumped liquid for cooling, which constrains the operating environment, and the need for proper sealing, electrical protection, and correct cable and control equipment to ensure safety. They are not universally suitable for highly corrosive liquids or very large solids unless specifically designed for such service.

Maintenance typically involves inspecting seals and bearings, checking electrical insulation and cable integrity, and testing the activation controls. Regular cleaning and ensuring that the pump is appropriate for the liquid’s solids content help extend service life. Safety considerations include proper installation, correct immersion depth, and protection against electric shock in wet environments.
