understyring
Understyring, or understeering, is a term used in vehicle dynamics to describe a situation where the front tires limit cornering grip, causing the vehicle to travel in a straighter line than intended. The steering wheel must be turned more than the driver expects to follow a given curve, and if the input is not increased or the grip remains insufficient, the vehicle will continue to go wide of the desired path.
Causes of understyring include insufficient front-tire grip relative to steering input, high speed through a curve,
Manifestations are typically an apparent lack of steering response from the front axle, with the car pushing
Corrections and prevention include reducing speed, applying smooth and progressive steering inputs, and avoiding aggressive braking
