Ultrasonically is an adverb formed from ultrasound or ultrasonics, used to describe actions conducted with or by means of ultrasonic sound waves. These waves have frequencies above human hearing, typically above 20 kilohertz, and are used across medicine, industry, and science to probe, image, clean, or modify materials.

In medicine and diagnostics, ultrasonic methods provide real-time imaging (ultrasound) and therapeutic options. Procedures may be described as ultrasonically guided or driven, where ultrasound guides needle placement or modulates tissue effects. In research, ultrasonically driven systems use high-frequency vibrations to study cavitation and tissue interactions.

In industry, ultrasonically assisted processes rely on high-frequency vibrations. Ultrasonic cleaning uses transducers to generate cavitation bubbles in a liquid bath, removing contaminants from delicate objects such as electronics, optics, and jewelry. Ultrasonically assisted machining and welding leverage vibration to reduce tool wear, improve material binding, or enable bonding of dissimilar plastics and metals. Ultrasonics is also used in materials testing: ultrasonic testing sends pulses into a material to detect flaws, often described as ultrasonically inspecting or testing the component.

Safety and limitations include potential tissue heating and cavitation when applied to living tissue, the need for proper coupling mediums, and equipment cost. Understanding of frequency, amplitude, and exposure is essential to minimize risk.
