Tørketumblere, commonly known as clothes dryers, are household appliances designed to remove moisture from laundry after it has been washed. They work by tumbling clothes in a heated drum, which evaporates the water. This process significantly reduces the time it takes to dry clothes compared to air-drying, especially in humid climates or during colder months.

There are two primary types of tørketumblere: vented and condenser dryers. Vented dryers expel moist air from the machine through a vent, typically to the outside of the building. Condenser dryers, on the other hand, collect the moisture in a removable container or drain it away, making them suitable for installations where venting is not possible. More recently, heat pump dryers have gained popularity. These are a type of condenser dryer that uses a heat pump system to recycle heat, making them more energy-efficient than traditional condenser models, though often with longer drying cycles.

Tørketumblere offer various settings to accommodate different fabric types and drying needs, such as delicate cycles, timed drying, and sensor drying. Sensor drying detects the moisture level in the clothes and automatically stops the cycle when the desired dryness is achieved, preventing over-drying and saving energy. They are a common appliance in many homes, simplifying laundry chores and providing a convenient way to dry clothes year-round. Maintenance typically involves cleaning the lint filter after each use and periodically cleaning the condenser unit if applicable.
