Tööulatust, commonly written as tööulatus, is the scope of work defined for a project or job. The term denotes the set of tasks, deliverables, boundaries, responsibilities, and timeframes that constitute the work to be performed. In Estonian texts, tööulatust is the genitive form used when referring to the scope of work in sentences such as “tööulatust tuleb selgelt määratleda.”

In project management, a clearly defined scope of work is the foundation for planning, resource estimation, scheduling, and risk management. It is usually documented in a statement of work (SOW) or a project charter and is supported by a work breakdown structure that breaks tasks into smaller items. A well-defined scope helps prevent scope creep by stating what is included and what is excluded.

In employment and procurement, the scope of work describes duties, responsibilities, expected outcomes, and reporting relationships for a role, or the goods and services to be supplied by a contractor.
