Töökujundus, also known as job design, is the process of specifying the contents, methods, and relationships of jobs to achieve organizational and individual goals. Several approaches exist for work design. The traditional scientific management approach focused on task specialization and efficiency, breaking down jobs into simple, repetitive tasks. Conversely, job enrichment and job enlargement strategies aim to make jobs more interesting and challenging. Job enrichment involves adding more responsibility, autonomy, and opportunities for growth to a job, while job enlargement involves increasing the variety of tasks performed within a job.

Other models, such as the Job Characteristics Model, suggest that certain job characteristics, including skill variety, task identity, task significance, autonomy, and feedback, are crucial for motivating employees and leading to positive outcomes like high-quality work performance, high motivation, and high job satisfaction. Organizations often consider these characteristics when designing or redesigning jobs to optimize both performance and employee well-being. The goal is to create jobs that are not only efficient but also engaging and fulfilling for the individuals performing them.
