Työtavoissa, or work methods, refers to the ways tasks and processes are carried out in a workplace. The term describes the chosen techniques, sequences, tools, and safety practices used to perform work efficiently and safely. In Finnish usage, työtavat or työtavoissa are central to how work is organized, instructed, and improved over time.

In practice, työtavat are documented in work instructions, standard operating procedures (SOPs), process descriptions, method sheets, and training materials. They specify the steps to complete a task, the order of operations, required tools, expected timing, quality checks, and safety requirements. They also address ergonomics and risk controls.

Implementing appropriate työtavat is part of occupational safety and quality management. Employers assess hazards, design safe methods, and provide training to workers. Methods are influenced by management concepts such as lean production, Six Sigma, and total quality management. Employee involvement and feedback are important to keep työtavat practical and up to date.

Over-standardization can reduce flexibility and suppress tacit knowledge; ongoing review and worker input are essential.
