A tyhjiöaktuaattori, also known as a vacuum actuator, is a device that uses negative air pressure (a vacuum) to generate mechanical force or motion. Unlike pneumatic actuators that use compressed air, vacuum actuators rely on the pressure difference between atmospheric pressure and a created vacuum to move a component. This pressure difference is typically created by a vacuum pump or a venturi nozzle.

The basic principle involves a chamber where a vacuum is established. This reduced pressure inside the chamber, compared to the higher atmospheric pressure outside, creates a force that can move a diaphragm, piston, or other mechanical element. As the vacuum level changes, the actuator moves accordingly. When the vacuum is released, or the chamber is vented to atmospheric pressure, the actuator typically returns to its original position, often aided by a spring.
