Difficulties can manifest as problems with fine motor skills, gross motor skills, attention, emotional regulation, and social interaction.

Tundmishäired is not an intellectual disability, though it can co-occur with other conditions like autism spectrum disorder or ADHD. The exact causes of tundmishäired are not fully understood, but it is thought to involve differences in how the brain processes sensory signals. Diagnosis typically involves a thorough evaluation by an occupational therapist or other qualified professional. Treatment often involves occupational therapy, which helps individuals develop strategies to manage sensory input and improve their ability to participate in everyday activities. The goal is not to "cure" tundmishäired, but to help individuals develop coping mechanisms and create an environment that better supports their sensory needs.
