transpallet

A transpallet, commonly referred to as a pallet truck or pallet jack, is a hand-operated or powered tool used to lift and move pallets in warehouses, retail spaces, and other material handling settings. The device consists of a pair of forks that slide under a pallet, a hydraulic system driven by a handle, and wheels for guidance. When the handle is pumped, hydraulic fluid raises the forks to lift the pallet off the floor, allowing horizontal transport with steering and pushing or pulling.

Manual transpallets are the standard type and vary in weight capacity, typically from about 1,000 to 5,000 kilograms, with fork lengths commonly around 800 to 1,200 millimeters and fork widths around 160 to 180 millimeters. Powered variants include electric pallet trucks and semi-electric models, which use a motor to assist lifting and/or propulsion, improving performance for heavier loads or longer distances. Some models are designed for very narrow aisles (VNA) and structural forklifts, enabling operation in tight warehouse layouts.

Operation emphasizes safety and proper technique. Operators should be trained, load ratings observed, and pallets checked for damage. The load should be evenly distributed, kept low during transport, and moved on smooth floor surfaces to prevent tipping. Regular maintenance includes checking hydraulic seals, lubricating moving parts, and inspecting forks and wheels for wear or cracks. Battery care is important for electric models.

Transpallets are a fundamental tool in material handling, bridging manual handling and full-size forklifts by enabling efficient, low-cost pallet movement in many industrial settings.
