transmetoni

Transmetoni are a hypothetical class of elementary particles proposed in speculative physics as carriers of a postulated new interaction that could link the standard model to a hidden or dark sector. In many theoretical sketches, transmetoni are vector bosons arising from a new gauge symmetry, sometimes denoted U(1)T, and are considered analogues of the photon or Z boson but with distinct couplings that allow interactions with dark matter while remaining weakly coupled to ordinary matter.

Properties commonly assigned to transmetoni include nonzero mass and neutrality under standard model gauge charges, with interactions mediated by a mixing mechanism, such as kinetic mixing with hypercharge or portal couplings to dark-sector fields. They may couple to leptons or quarks with varying strengths, and could decay into fermion pairs or into dark-sector states, producing signals of missing energy in collider experiments.

Experimental status: there is no experimental evidence for transmetoni. They appear in theoretical models and in some science-fiction contexts. If they exist, current collider searches, precision measurements, and astrophysical observations place bounds on their mass scale and couplings, constraining parameter space but not excluding all possibilities.

Relation to other ideas: transmetoni are related to broader discussions of fifth forces, dark photons, and Z'-like particles. They often appear in portal models that seek to explain dark matter interactions, anomalies, or cosmological hints of new physics.
