Toimekindlus is an Estonian term used to describe the capacity of a treatment, intervention, or product to produce the intended therapeutic or desired effect. In medical and scientific contexts, it refers to the maximal level of benefit that can be achieved under controlled or ideal conditions. The concept is closely tied to the idea of efficacy, indicating how well a treatment works when correctly applied in a research setting, such as a randomized controlled trial.

In practice, toimekindlus is often contrasted with real-world effectiveness. While efficacy reflects the potential benefit under study conditions, effectiveness refers to how well the treatment performs in routine clinical practice, where factors like adherence, patient diversity, and implementation variability come into play.
