Tintendruck refers to a printing method that uses liquid ink to transfer an image or text onto a substrate, typically paper. This process is widely used in various printing technologies, most notably in inkjet printers. In tintendruck, microscopic droplets of ink are precisely ejected from a print head and directed onto the printing surface. The ink is usually composed of pigments or dyes dissolved in a liquid carrier.

There are two primary mechanisms for controlling the ejection of ink droplets in inkjet printing: thermal and piezoelectric. Thermal inkjet technology, also known as bubble jet, heats the ink in tiny chambers, causing it to vaporize and expand, forcing a droplet out. Piezoelectric inkjet technology utilizes a piezoelectric crystal that changes shape when an electric voltage is applied, creating pressure waves that push ink out of the nozzle.

Tintendruck is valued for its versatility, ability to produce high-resolution images with a wide color gamut, and relatively low cost for home and small office use. It is suitable for printing documents, photographs, and graphics. The quality and permanence of tintendruck prints can vary depending on the type of ink and paper used, with archival inks and papers offering greater longevity. Despite its advantages, tintendruck can be slower than some other printing methods for large volumes and the ink cartridges can represent an ongoing cost.
