Tihendusvorming, also known as compression molding, is a manufacturing process used to produce molded products by placing a pre-measured amount of a compound into a heated mold cavity and closing the mold under pressure. The material, often a thermosetting plastic or rubber, flows and cures under the heat and pressure, taking the shape of the mold. This process is particularly well-suited for creating complex shapes and parts with high dimensional stability.

The basic steps involved in compression molding include preparing the mold, which is typically heated to the optimal curing temperature for the specific material. A charge of the molding material, either in powder, pellet, or pre-form shape, is then placed into the lower half of the mold. The mold is closed, and hydraulic pressure is applied, forcing the material to fill the entire cavity and conform to the mold's intricate details. During this period, the material undergoes a chemical change, usually polymerization or cross-linking, which permanently sets its shape. Once the curing is complete, the mold is opened, and the finished part is ejected.

Compression molding is often chosen for its simplicity, low tooling costs, and ability to handle materials that may degrade under the high shear forces of other molding techniques. It is commonly used for producing electrical components, automotive parts, gaskets, buttons, and various consumer goods. The resulting products generally exhibit good mechanical properties and surface finish.
