TicStörung, also known as tic disorder, refers to a group of neurological conditions characterized by sudden, rapid, recurrent, nonrhythmic motor movements or vocalizations called tics. These tics can vary widely in type, frequency, and severity. Motor tics involve the body and can include simple movements like blinking, head jerking, or shoulder shrugging, as well as more complex movements such as jumping or touching objects. Vocal tics involve sounds and can range from simple throat clearing or sniffing to more complex vocalizations like grunting, shouting, or repeating words or phrases (echolalia or palilalia).
