Terroirista is a term used to describe a person who emphasizes terroir—the environmental conditions, including soil, climate, topography, and cultivation practices—as a primary influence on the character of agricultural products, especially wine. A terroirista tends to relate sensory qualities of a product to its geographic origin and the unique ecological context in which it was produced.

While the concept originates in discussions of wine, the label terroirista has appeared in other product domains such as coffee, chocolate, tea, and cheese. In these contexts, a terroirista may foreground provenance and regional typicity, arguing that origin-specific factors impart distinctive flavors, textures, or aromas that distinguish products from different places.

The term is informal and largely appears in journalism, marketing, and online discourse rather than as a formal professional designation. It is sometimes used descriptively to label critics, writers, or producers who prioritize terroir in their evaluations or branding. Because terroir and its influence are debated within agronomy and sensory science, the use of the term can vary with context and speaker.

Supporters of the terroirist approach contend that terroir offers a meaningful framework for understanding variation among products and for communicating origin to consumers. Critics caution that terroir is just one of many interacting factors—including cultivar, processing, and human technique—and that overemphasis on terroir can oversimplify complexity or become marketing rhetoric.
