Telecommandos are a speculative or fictional class of military personnel designed to operate remotely on the battlefield. In the concept, a trained operator controls a squad or individual units through a teleoperation system that translates intent into motor actions and sensory feedback. Telecommandos typically rely on wearable robotic exoskeletons, robotic manipulators, and sensor arrays, with bidirectional communications linking the operator to the remote unit. The aim is to enable near-direct control while minimizing human exposure to danger.

Technology and operation: Teleoperation uses high-bandwidth, low-latency communications, haptic interfaces, and sometimes neural or brain–computer interfaces to convey sensations and commands. Operators may experience a sense of presence within the remote environment, improving precision. Some designs include partial autonomy to handle routine tasks, with human oversight for critical decisions. Telecommandos would operate in urban, subterranean, or contaminated settings where conventional troops face high risk.

Applications, advantages and challenges: Potential advantages include reduced casualties, extended reach, and rapid deployment. Limitations include latency and reliability of communications, constraint of perception and maneuver, operator fatigue, and the risk of misinterpretation. Ethical and legal questions surround accountability for remote actions, escalation risks, and the psychological burden on operators. As of the present, fully integrated telecommandos have not been deployed; the concept remains largely within fiction and futurist discourse.
