Teknokraattisuutta, sometimes translated as technocracy, refers to a socio-political ideology and system of governance where decision-makers are selected based on their technical expertise and knowledge in a given field, rather than through democratic processes or traditional political affiliations. The core principle is that complex societal problems are best solved by individuals with specialized scientific and technical training, who can apply rational, objective analysis to policy formulation and implementation.

In a technocratic system, positions of power would ideally be held by engineers, scientists, economists, and other experts who demonstrate a proven ability to manage and innovate within their respective domains. The emphasis is on efficiency, data-driven decision-making, and the application of scientific methods to achieve optimal societal outcomes. Critics often raise concerns about the potential for technocracy to undermine democratic principles, reduce public participation in governance, and concentrate power in the hands of an unelected elite. The concept has been explored in various theoretical frameworks and has influenced certain policy approaches throughout history, though a fully realized technocratic state has rarely, if ever, been established.
