tauopathic
Tauopathy refers to a class of neurodegenerative diseases characterized by the abnormal accumulation and aggregation of tau protein in the brain. The tau protein is normally found in neurons, where it plays a crucial role in stabilizing microtubules, essential components of the cell's internal structure and transport system. In tauopathies, tau protein becomes hyperphosphorylated, leading to its detachment from microtubules and its subsequent misfolding and aggregation into toxic structures called neurofibrillary tangles. These tangles disrupt neuronal function and ultimately lead to neuronal death.
The most well-known tauopathy is Alzheimer's disease, which is characterized by both tau tangles and amyloid-beta
