The active ingredient in takrolimusz is tacrolimus, a macrolide compound derived from the bacterium *Streptomyces tsukubaensis*.

Takrolimusz is available in two forms: ointment (0.03% and 0.1%) and cream (0.03% and 0.1%). The 0.03% strength is typically prescribed for adults, while the 0.1% formulation is used for children aged two years and older. It is applied directly to affected skin areas, usually twice daily, depending on the severity of the condition. The medication is applied sparingly to minimize systemic absorption, which can lead to potential side effects.

Common side effects of takrolimusz include local irritation such as burning, stinging, or redness at the application site. In rare cases, systemic absorption may occur, particularly in children or with prolonged use, leading to more serious side effects such as increased risk of infections, high blood pressure, or kidney problems.
