Tüveühendamist, also known as grafting, is a horticultural technique whereby tissues of plants are joined so as to continue their growth together. The upper part of the combined plant is called the scion while the lower part is called the rootstock. The technique is most commonly used for asexual reproduction of commercially grown plants, particularly fruit trees and ornamental shrubs.

The primary goal of tüveühendamist is to combine desirable traits from two different plants. For instance, a rootstock might be chosen for its disease resistance, adaptability to specific soil conditions, or dwarfing characteristics, while the scion is selected for its superior fruit quality, flower color, or growth habit. When the scion and rootstock are successfully joined, they will grow as a single plant, with the scion dictating the characteristics of the above-ground portion and the rootstock influencing the root system and overall vigor.

Several methods of tüveühendamist exist, including whip-and-tongue grafting, cleft grafting, and bud grafting. The success of grafting depends on the compatibility between the scion and rootstock, the timing of the operation, and proper technique to ensure close contact between the cambium layers of both plant parts. A successful graft is indicated by the healing of the union and the continued growth of the scion. Tüveühendamist allows for rapid propagation of desirable varieties and the creation of plants with complex characteristics that may not be achievable through seed propagation alone.
