A szívpumpa, commonly referred to as a heart pump or cardiac assist device, is a mechanical device designed to help a weakened heart circulate blood throughout the body. These devices are typically used for individuals suffering from severe heart failure, where the heart muscle is unable to pump blood effectively on its own. The primary goal of a szívpumpa is to alleviate symptoms of heart failure, improve quality of life, and in some cases, serve as a bridge to heart transplantation or as a long-term solution.

There are several types of szívpumpa, with the most common being ventricular assist devices (VADs). VADs can assist either the left ventricle (LVAD), the right ventricle (RVAD), or both ventricles (BiVAD).
