Szunnyadó is a Hungarian adjective meaning dormant or inactive, referring to a state of low metabolic activity in which typical life processes are reduced or suspended. The term derives from the verb szunnyad, which denotes lying in rest or being at sleep. It is used in scientific and everyday language to describe organisms, tissues, or structures that are not actively growing or functioning at a given moment.

In biology, szunnyadó describes seeds, buds, bulbs, or perennial plants that suspend growth to survive unfavorable conditions. Seed dormancy is a deliberate mechanism that prevents germination until conditions are suitable.
