Szokás is a Hungarian noun meaning a custom, habit, or customary practice. In sociological and anthropological usage, it denotes a pattern of behavior that is repeated within a group and regarded as normal by its members, having been transmitted through socialization rather than formal instruction.

In everyday language, szokás covers a wide range of practices, from routine behaviors to culturally significant rites. Examples include eating habits (étkezési szokások), greetings and etiquette, festive practices, and regional rituals. The term also appears in the compound szokásjog, or customary law, referring to practices that have legal relevance in the absence or complement of written law.

Discussion of szokás in studies often emphasizes its durability and adaptability: although many customs persist across generations, they can shift in response to economic change, migration, or contact with other cultures.
