szociáldemokrata
Szociáldemokrata is the Hungarian term for social democrat or social democracy. It refers to a political ideology that advocates for a mixed economy, with both private enterprise and significant public services and social welfare programs. Social democracy generally seeks to achieve social justice and equality through gradual, democratic reforms within a capitalist framework, rather than through revolutionary means. Key tenets often include a commitment to universal healthcare, free or subsidized education, robust social safety nets, and strong labor protections. Social democrats believe that the state has a crucial role to play in mitigating the inequalities and market failures inherent in capitalism and in ensuring a decent standard of living for all citizens. Historically, social democratic parties emerged in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, often as a response to the harsh conditions of industrialization. They have evolved over time, with some parties embracing more market-oriented policies in recent decades, while others maintain a more traditional focus on public ownership and state intervention. In Hungary, as in many other countries, social democratic ideas have influenced various political parties and movements throughout its modern history.
