Systeemi is a Finnish loanword from the English word system, used to refer to a set of interconnected components that function together to achieve a common purpose. In everyday Finnish it appears across domains such as technology, organization, and society, and while it overlaps with the formal term järjestelmä, systeemi often carries a slightly more colloquial or technical nuance.

A system is characterized by elements, structure, and relationships between parts. Key concepts include boundaries that define what is inside or outside the system, inputs and outputs that describe the flow of matter or information, and processes that transform inputs into results. Many systems are open, exchanging matter and energy with their environment, while others are more closed. Feedback loops regulate behavior, contributing to stability, adaptation, or change.
