Suncokret, scientifically known as Helianthus annuus, is a large annual plant cultivated as a crop for its edible seeds, oil, and as animal feed. The sunflower's name derives from its heliotropic behavior, meaning the young flower heads turn to follow the sun's movement across the sky during the day. This phenomenon, known as heliotropism, helps the developing plant maximize its exposure to sunlight. Mature flower heads generally face east.
